Western Riding for Everyone, all levels of riders and all breeds of horses
The Western Equestrian Society (WES) was formed in 1985 to promote the discipline of Western Riding to the standard as practised in the United States.
We promote the sport for enthusiasts at all levels, whether pure beginners or seasoned competitors. You can enjoy all of our ridden activities with ANY breed of horse or pony. Members participate with Highland ponies, Welsh ponies and Cobs, traditional Cobs, Haflingers, Arabians, Thoroughbreds and also the various western breeds. In fact, you name the breed and there’s probably a WES member out there riding it in a western saddle! We like a bit of variety!
A National Society Offering Local Access
There are a couple of things that make us unique in the UK western community. The first is the fact that we’re an ‘all-breed’ society, but possibly the most distinctive feature is that we are national society that operates a regional infrastructure, and can deliver greater access to western events than any other western organisation in the UK.
Underpinning our regional infrastructure is a collection of 13 area representatives that are passionate about all things western and eager to promote the western disciplines at every opportunity. We are sure you will find this team both friendly and helpful. Ultimately, as a result of this regional infrastructure we are able to provide support, shows, clinics and a community in every part of the UK.
Our Affiliations
In addition to our regional representatives, WES has formed strong affiliations with other UK national societies that focus on western riding and horses.
A registered charity dedicated to promoting the Quarter Horse in the UK. AQHA-UK maintains the Breed Registry for the UK, as well as holding the annual Championship Show, clinics and training.
Promoting interest in the Paint Horse by encouraging Paint breeding for conformation and ability through shows, pleasure and trail riding, racing and all other activities of same nature
