Emma Chapman Training

Western riding and horse training in North Yorkshire, without pain or fear.. Emma Chapman-Lonie. Level 3. Area 5

Horsemanship, Ranch riding, Trail, Showmanship

Emma Chapman-Lonie is a WES Level 3 Professional and head trainer at Emma Chapman Training in North Yorkshire.

Having grown up with horses, she decided early on that there had to be a better way to train and ride, without resorting to pain and fear. She was introduced to that approach at 11 by one of Monty Roberts's original instructors, went on to earn an award in Natural Horsemanship, and spent ten years studying and practising these methods.

She works with a wide range of horses and specialises in the untouched, the young and the remedial, as well as retraining ex-racehorses. Her focus is the reason behind a horse's behaviour: building the trust, respect and understanding that lead to real solutions for horse and rider.

Emma competes in western and English classes on horses she has trained. They include Midnight Robbery, an ex-racehorse who placed second at the WES National Show and gave a western display at the Retraining of Racehorses showcase at Aintree, and Dakota Gun, the American Paint mare she bred and trained, Supreme Champion in the Paint halter classes at her first show.

What I offer

  • Western riding lessons: Private or group lessons for riders of all abilities, from complete beginners to riders who want to own and show their own horse.
  • Clinics and camps: Groundwork, horsemanship, ranch riding, trail, polework and spookbusting clinics, and weekend camps. The dates are below.
  • Backing young horses: Tacking up, first rides, loading and hacking out, at the pace the horse sets. Typically four to six weeks, and owners are encouraged to join in.
  • Remedial horses: Help with loading, napping, bucking, rearing or bolting, rebuilding the horse's trust and confidence.
  • Retraining ex-racehorses: A new life after racing, from settling in to western work.
  • Everyday quirks: For a horse that is not a problem horse but has a habit you would like to change.
