Your WES, your say: three changes to help us grow
Council proposed three changes to the Constitution, and every member gets a vote on each one. Voting closes on 30 September.
Something good is happening at WES. More of you are stepping forward to help, more areas are coming back to life, and we have real ambition for where the Society goes next. Council has agreed three changes to the Constitution to make room for that, and you vote on each one separately.
What you are voting on
Volunteers from anywhere (section 7.1)
Today no more than three Council members may come from the same area. The change: no single area may hold a majority of the recorded votes.
The Chair’s vote (sections 7 and 7.6)
The Chair gives up the ordinary vote and keeps a casting vote only in a tie.
A Volunteer Coordinator on Council (section 7)
A new Council role to look after everyone who offers to help.
Why it matters
When we asked for help in July, around twenty members offered. Some had to be turned away only because too many lived in one area, which the Constitution did not allow. These changes fix that.
Voting is online and closes on 30 September 2026. The changes need the support of at least a tenth of the whole membership, so every vote counts.
